We are about 100 days away from our 2024 reunion in Las Vegas. By now, you should have received the mailer with details that we sent. Either the document was snail mailed or emailed to you. It was also posted on facebook and the website. If you did not receive the mailer, then I do not have your contact information. Please forward to me. We require 40 rooms booked to take advantage of significant discounts. These discounts are required to receive the costing that was quoted to everyone. As of today, we have booked 16 rooms and we are concerned. The last reunion by August 1, we had booked 35 rooms. We are hoping that all of our shipmates can help out to spread the word about the reunion. If anyone needs details, please have them contact myself, Frank Lambert, or Craig Mueller. 

If you have booked a room and your name is not on the list, please let me know. You may have booked a room other than our group discount. I can fix that. Our reunions have been a great success in the past, let's keep that going and muster up some sailors!!!!

Hope this letter finds everyone happy and healthy. Whether you’re a plank owner or you took the last steps off our beautiful ship for the last time, we all called this girl our home at one point or another. What great memories we’ve had and shared throughout these reunions.

It is that time again for all of us to gather for our JAF Reunion. As you know, this year we will gather in Las Vegas, Nevada. The dates for the event are Thursday, November 14, 2024, thru Sunday, November 17, 2024. We have some planned events that you are welcome to enjoy as a group or plan your own day for your favorite Las Vegas adventures. We will be staying at the Ahern Luxury Boutique Hotel. It is at the north end of the strip. I recommend an Uber to the hotel if you are 

flying in. The hotel has no gambling, no smoking, and free parking if you have a vehicle. There is no Resort Fee. 

The negotiated room fee is $139.00/night. The address is:

Hotel Check-in: Once you get checked in, we have Studio A booked for the evening. Including wives, we are planning on 80 total people (40 rooms). If you have not done so, please make your reservations now. The Studio A & C rooms are complimentary as long as we reserve 40 rooms. Same rules apply as last reunion, we are not permitted to have coolers and snacks in the Studios. If you bring your own cup into the Studio, I doubt it will be questioned. Please don’t abuse that privilege. Let’s play this by ear. It seemed to work out well at the last reunion. Coolers may have to be kept in our rooms. 

Breakfast: We are on our own for each morning breakfast. You can eat at the hotel restaurant or locally.

There are many activities to choose from. I personally like to do one trip as a group. All of the below activities have their own advantages and disadvantages. Some are expensive and others may be a distance out of our comfort zone. In the coming months, we will see who is attending the reunion and who is interested in what activities. We will go from there to plan something.

The Sphere at the Venetian: The sphere is a music and entertainment arena. It is a 18,600 seat and famous for their audio and visual capabilities. It is similar to an Omni-max theatre on steroids!!! The disadvantage to planning a trip to the Sphere is a single ticket is approximately $150.00. The Sphere is 2.8 miles from the hotel. I consider this a must see.

The National Atomic Testing Museum: This museum documents the history of nuclear testing at the Nevada Test Site in the Mojave Desert about 65 miles northwest of Las Vegas. Admission is $27/each. The museum is 4.5 miles from the hotel.

The Museum of Natural History: The museum focuses on dinosaurs, marine life, and mammals both exotic and native. Admission is $10/each. The museum is 4.5 miles from the hotel.

Hoover Dam: This dam needs no introduction. Admission to the Power Plant is $12/each and the Visitor Center is $10/each. The Dam is approximately 35.7 miles from the hotel.

Red Rock Canyon: This canyon has breathtaking views. If you’re not a hiker, there is a 13-mile road trail. 1 Day Pass is $10/vehicle. The Canyon is approximately 35.7 miles from the hotel.

Gambling: Obviously gambling is an activity that is local and multiple venues to choose from that are all within walking distance. You might even be interested in a show within the casinos. These shows would be too numerous to investigate.

I would highly suggest viewing these activities online. There is great information to help you plan for your own personal best trip possible. 

Dues/Fees: JAF membership dues are $20 (covers 2 years). The charge for the reunion will be $45/single or $90/couple for the meal and the reunion fee will be $45/shipmate. Therefore, the total cost is $110 for a single shipmate or $155 for a couple. This price has not changed from the last reunion. The reunion fee covers the cost of the banquet rooms, tax and gratuity on the food, servers, etc. It also assumes a hotel discount based upon the number of shipmates attending. We try very hard to keep the cost reasonable. Keep in mind we usually have some auctions, split the pot, and I think there is even a commemorative coin this year. More details to come.

WHAT WE NEED YOU TO DO ASAP: Posted on Facebook is a very simple link that is already tied to our reservation. Our reunion code is JAF Navy. Please make your reservation immediately. If not on Facebook, call the hotel (# is listed with hotel information) and tell them you are with the block of 40 rooms (JAF Reunion). Hotel charges are paid upon checkout. Your dues, meal and reunion costs must be prepaid. Send a check written to JAF REUNION, mail to Cliff Smith, 10900 Legend Trail, Cheyenne, WY 82009. PLEASE BOOK YOUR ROOMS NOW. This is the best way for us to get an accurate head count and take advantage of the discounted pricing.

We are in process of making plans for our Las Vegas 2024 JAF reunion. Here is a quick update. Dates are November 14, 2024 thru November 17, 2024. We will be staying at the Ahern Luxury Hotel. and we have a tentative price of $139/night plus tax. There is no resort fee. Below is the link to the hotel and the group code. What we need right now is a firm number of guests. Feel free to visit the hotel website. The hotel is very nice and at the north end of the strip. For now, we are assuming 35 rooms (70 guests), but the more participation we get, the better our negotiations will go. More details to follow. We plan to visit the Sphere and another activity that we are still looking into. 

What would really help us out right now is if you could confirm a YES/NO for us by replying to this post. Even a NO will be helpful so that we know we contacted you. If you know shipmates that do not use Facebook, please pass along this information.
